NorthWind Bangui Bay Project
The NorthWind Bangui Bay Project is located on a 9km stretch of undeveloped and uninhabited foreshore area in Bangui Bay in Ilocos Norte Province at the northern tip of Luzon in the Philippines. This project represents the first commercial wind power project in the ASEAN region. It will provide zero GHG emission power and help to enhance technology transfer to the Philippines. The total capacity of the project is approximately 33 MW.
The Philippines faced serious power shortages in the early 1990’s and the Philippines Government is currently in the process of restructuring the power sector in order to provide reliable power supply that helps to sustain the country’s economic growth and development. Additionally, being the first wind power plant in the ASEAN region, it also attracts an increased number of tourists to the area. Helping with the injection of much needed revenue into local businesses and the local community as a whole.
